What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one branch of a comprehensive system of health care developed in China over 2000 years ago. Acupuncture consists of the insertion of fine needles into the body at points shown to be effective in the treatment of many health problems.

Acupuncture consists of gentle insertion and stimulation of thin, flexible, disposable, sterile needles at strategic points near the surface of the body.  The needles might elicit a feeling of heaviness, an ache, warmth, or a feeling of energy moving throughout the body.  Most peoples fear comes from the experience with the much larger and more painful hypodermic needles used for injections. While also sterile and disposable, acupuncture needles are considerably thinner and not designed for injections. When the mental hurdles are removed, most people find acupuncture to be therapeutic and quite relaxing.

Acupuncture works on all systems throughout the body and can be used to treat an array of illnesses.

Acupuncture can treat illness in the following systems:

  • cardiovascular
  • respiratory
  • nervous
  • digestive
  • reproductive
  • muscular

Acupuncture can also treat:

  • Pain (headache, migraines, backache, neck pain, sciatica, etc)
  • Emotional disorders
  • Psychological disorder
  • STRESS

5- Element Acupuncture

5 Element Acupuncture is based on the elements found in nature.  They are water, wood, fire, earth, and metal.  As in nature, each of the elements is also found within each of us helping to create who we are and how we function in the world.  In treating using 5-E acupuncture we look at the body as a whole and treat on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level.  Our goal is to balance the elements within to create balance and harmony from the inside out.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been around for more than 5000 years.  The foundation of TCM is qi (life energy).  Qi flows through pathways throughout our bodies called meridians.  When there is disease or pain, blockages and disharmony within the meridians are present.  Our mission in using TCM is to create the free flow of qi to create balance and harmony throughout the body, mind, and spirit.

About Erin

Erin M. Simants L.Ac. discovered acupuncture at an early age after she had an accident with a horse that left her unable to walk. After extensive physical therapy she did regain her steps but she still had extensive pain. Western medicine left her hopeless and full of pharmaceuticals. After finding the local acupuncturist in town and after a few treatments she was pain free and in love with Chinese Medicine. She went on to graduate from Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver, Colorado. After graduating she completed a 500 hour 5-Element Acupuncture Program with her mentor Judi Terrill of Jade Woman Enterprises. She tailors treatments according to your complaint using a combination of both Traditional Chinese Medicine and 5-Element Acupuncture. Her favorite hobbies include hiking, cooking, and traveling. She loves being outdoors and enjoys being out in the elements.
